Even after the Supreme Court refusing to lift the stay on Jallikattu (Bull run) which is the traditional Pongal sport in Tamil Nadu, the bordering areas in Andhra Pradesh particularly Chittoor has geared up for the sport, the day after Sankranthi which is known as the Kanuma day.

Even after the Supreme Court refusing to lift the stay on Jallikattu (Bull run) which is the traditional Pongal sport in Tamil Nadu, the bordering areas in Andhra Pradesh particularly Chittoor has geared up for the sport, the day after Sankranthi which is known as the Kanuma day.

However, the difference between the sport in Tamil Nadu and Chittoor is that a herd of around 50 cows are made to run through in between people lining up on both the sides. While the horns of the cows are decorated with contraptions, the people are expected to catch these rushing cows resulting in people getting hurt sometimes. Ambulances are kept nearby in order to treat the wounds.

Highlight of this year's event is that AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and his brother-in-law Nandamuri Balakrishna are a part of the celebrations that are being held at Pullayaagaripeta in Chandragiri mandal of the district.
